ABS 3D Printing Material

ABS is a 3D printing material that's great for mechanical strength and early stage rough prototypes. ABS is a cost-effective material for initial prototyping applications, and with post-processing options it can offer better surface finish than PLA.

Fabrication Technology

ABS is fabricated using Fused Deposition Modeling technology (FDM).

Material Finish

ABS has a similar finish to PLA, but with a more matte finish. It has great post treatment options and can be sanded, painted, and finished with different solvents for a smoother finish.

Material Properties

ABS is a popular 3D printing material for its toughness and strength, which is why most consumer plastics use ABS. Note that for large 3D prints, ABS is susceptible to warping.

Since ABS uses a soluble support system (vs PLA, which uses a rigid support system), it's much easier to clean, which allows for more accurate geometries.

Material Resolution

ABS prints at a relatively low resolution of 0.3mm - 0.1mm, (0.012" - 0.004").
